Located near the post office, shops and local museum.
"Bonnie Bheinn House" is ideally situated. The
West Highland Way, which is approx. 125 miles long, passes
through Kinlochleven, on its way from Glasgow to Fort
William. Other local paths for walking are available,
as are mountains for hill climbing , and river and loch
for those who wish to fish. Discover the mountain paths

The
National Trust owns most of Glencoe, which means that
Glencoe should be kept as a wild place and open access
should always be maintained. Some of the finest climbing
and walking country is in the highlands. So come and
see for yourself!
History
There is some evidence that an early flint factory (Neolithic
Age 4-2000BC) existed in a town near Kinlochleven. A 4ft
wooden figurine of a goddess was found nearby dating back
to 626BC. Crannogs are houses built on stilts in shallow
water in inland lochs. The peat behind Loch Leven Hotel
hides archaeological evidence of such a dwelling. Local
legends include the Callart Plague, James of the Glen,
and most infamous, the Massacre of Glencoe.
Wildlife
Amid the breathtaking scenery wildlife abounds. A few
of the huge variety of species of wildlife in this wild
landscape are red deer, wildcat, golden eagles, and other
birds.
Language
On your journey, take note of all the Gaelic / Norse place
names and discover their meaning. These local place names
usually have an interesting, descriptive meaning.
Fishing
Local fishing in River Coe (the river associated with
Glencoe) for salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Fishing
in the sea lochs reap catches of pollack, cod, mackerel,
siathe, large skate, thornbacks, conger eels, wrasse,
and sea trout. Two newsagents at Kinlochleven sell fishing
permits. Stock waters are stocked with rainbow trout.
Fishing in hill lochs which are in easy access to Kinlochleven
is well recommended. Motor boats may be hired on Loch
Leven between May & September, providing an excellent
opportunity for fishing the Loch. Fishing rod hire and
tackle sales are also available locally with the boat
hires. Mackerel is almost guaranteed during July &
August.
Hillwalking
and Climbing
Glencoe provides a greatly diverse terrain for both the
experienced walker and the novice. Highly competent local
guides can be contacted by us on your behalf. The area
is well served by the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, but
if you treat the mountains with the respect they deserve
and adhere to all the safety codes, they should not be
required. Countryside Ranger Guided Walks are available
from The Kinlochleven Visitor Centre.
Sailing
& Windsurfing
Loch Leven, although tidal, is considered a safe sailing
area, with a variety of small islands to explore, deep
in the magnificence of mountains and glens. Motor boats
may be hired on Loch Leven between May & September.
Canadian canoes may be hired for use on Loch Leven and
qualified instructors are available.
